Can I use my NDIS funding for Music Therapy?
Are you a provider for the NDIS?

Yes you can!!
Music therapy can be funded through the NDIS. However, we are not an NDIS Provider.
BUT! You can still access our music therapy services through your NDIS funding ONLY if you are self-managed or plan-managed! Music therapy can be funded through the “Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living Skills” funding category. Supported music lessons can be funded through “Capacity Building – Increased Social and Community Participation”.

Do you need to have musical skills to partake in Music Therapy?

No, you do not need to have musical skills to participate in music therapy.

What should I expect in a Music Therapy session?

A music therapy session involves the use of musical instruments, percussion, voice, movement and interactive improvisation. Within a session clients will be involved in music making with their therapist. We work together to develop lifestyle skills and goals which may include enhancing social skills, speech and language, fine and gross motor skills, improving self regulation and more. Please do not hesitate to ask the therapist about what is happening during the session, but we would appreciate it if this is done after the session ends rather than during the session.

How many Music Therapy sessions are needed?

The length of the therapy is dependent on the needs of the client and where they are at in terms of their lifestyle goals. It also depends on how clients respond to the musical intervention. Sessions are conducted on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Some clients may attend for 1 – 2 years and we develop progressive goals as each client achieves new milestones.
